How ChipMeter handles local hardware readings, recording history, exports and support requests.
What the app stores
ChipMeter stores chip and Mac model, core counts, physical memory, operating-system version, sampling times, CPU/GPU utilization, memory occupancy and pressure, accumulated metrics, reference snapshots and your app preferences locally. It does not store screen content, keystrokes, a list of the apps you use, or device serial numbers.
Recording and control
Recording starts automatically the first time you open ChipMeter, alongside a short welcome guide. You can pause immediately; your choice is remembered across launches. Closing the main window keeps recording in the menu bar; quitting stops recording. Open at login is optional and off by default.
Local storage and collection
ChipMeter has no developer-operated account or server, advertising, third-party analytics SDK or cross-app tracking. Monitoring history is not automatically uploaded or synced by ChipMeter. System backups or cloud locations you choose for exports are governed by their providers.
Export and sharing
PNG/JSON reports and a complete SQLite history backup are created when you request them. You choose the destination or sharing service. They may include device configuration, timestamps, usage and reference information; review them before sharing.
Retention and deletion
History is kept until you clear it in Settings → Data & Privacy. Clearing pauses recording and removes history and its stored hardware/reference snapshots; it does not delete previously exported files or reset every app preference. Pausing or quitting keeps history. On macOS, removing the app may leave its data container or backups; manage these through the system and your backup provider.
Support and this website
If you email support, the support team uses the information you choose to provide to answer your request and investigate the issue. Avoid sending unnecessary personal or confidential information. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and has no added advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. GitHub may process technical request information under its own privacy statement.
Policy updates
This policy will be updated if ChipMeter’s data-handling practices change. Contact the email above with questions.
