Which Macs are supported?
The current candidate targets Apple silicon Macs running macOS 26 or later. GPU readings depend on the available system/driver fields; a missing reading stays unavailable.
How do I start or pause?
Recording starts automatically on first launch. The welcome guide includes a pause control. Use the menu bar or app settings to pause or resume later. Closing the window keeps recording; Quit stops the app. Reopen the guide from Help → Welcome to ChipMeter.
Are averages measured since my Mac was purchased?
No. Statistics use valid history that ChipMeter recorded. Since boot uses the system’s startup time and complete recorded minutes; downtime, sleep, pauses and missing samples are excluded. Coverage shows how much of the requested window was actually recorded.
What do the units mean?
CPU core-hours add busy time across CPU cores. GPU hours measure device busy time. Memory GB·h integrates occupied memory over time; it is not memory traffic, bandwidth or completed work.
How reliable is the M1 comparison?
CPU and GPU use separate numerical comparisons published by Apple, with M1 (8 CPU / 8 GPU) as 1.00. Direct comparisons and cross-generation calculations are labelled separately, with sources and configurations shown in the app. Published peak claims vary by workload and test conditions; multiplied comparisons are illustrative estimates, not a uniform benchmark or guaranteed speedup. They do not measure completed work or productivity. Missing configurations are not guessed.
Where can I export or clear data?
Use Reports for PNG/JSON. Settings → Data & Privacy exports a complete SQLite backup or clears local history after confirmation. Keep exported backups separately. This candidate does not provide an in-app backup import flow.
